Sustainability

By living our values, we are able to build strong relationships with our host communities and governments, making us a better partner and a better company.

We strive to treat the people in our host communities with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Our commitment is underpinned by the policies, procedures, and the numerous voluntary codes to which we adhere. They serve as a blueprint that guides our actions in critical areas such as community relations, environmental stewardship, health and safety, and human rights. By living our values, we are able to build strong relationships with our host communities and governments, making us a better partner and a better company.

Environment

We are a responsible, top-tier operator mining the resources that help power the modern world. Mining impacts the environment and we know we have to conduct our business in an environmentally responsible manner. This is vital to our ability to operate and grow, and our stakeholders expect and deserve no less. From exploration through closure, we apply best practices in environmental management to reduce our footprint and contribute to sustainable development everywhere we operate. We do this in a number of ways, including:

Maintaining ISO 14001 environmental management systems certifications at all production operations
Applying the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) environmental protocols and frameworks at our Canadian and international operations
Adhering strictly to our Environmental, Health and Safety Policy, which sets the standards by which we operate
Setting continuously improving environmental targets and measuring our performance against them

Communities

We care about communities and contributing to their well-being. Our goal is to support sustained prosperity for people, communities and broader regional economies. We develop partnerships and fund a wide range of initiatives that encompass education, local employment, health care, infrastructure development and environmental stewardship. We set out to build close and collaborative relationships with our community and government partners by understanding their priorities and integrating them into our work. This engagement begins during the exploration phase and continues through a mine’s operating life and closure. Our approach is based on mutual respect, trust and continuous dialogue.
